EXHIBITIONS

This webpage features two online exhibitions and one display prepared by the project team.

A major exhibition was planned for 2022 at the National Museum of Archaeology in Lisbon, but unfortunately this exhibition had to be cancelled because of logistical repercussions at the Museum stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Achilles in the National Museums and Palaces of Portugal

Anyone with any pretensions to culture knew Greek myths in the same way that medieval Christians knew Bible stories…. A comprehensive knowledge of Greek myth was essential for anyone who wanted to hold his head up in polite society, throughout the length and breadth of the Roman world.

Alan Cameron, Greek Mythography in the Roman World, p. 222

These are Google Arts and Culture online exhibitions pairing literary texts with artefacts from Portuguese museums showing Greek myths and Achilles.

Both of these online exhibitions have English and Portuguese versions; however, they will appear in only one of these two languages depending upon the primary language of the Google account of the viewer.
